Choreography teacher jailed 6-years for sexually abusing 7 children in Twifo-Heman

The Twifo Hemang District Court, presided over by Mr Maxwell Ofori Kpodo, has sentenced a 50-year-old man, Eric Adu Amissah, to six-years imprisonment for sexually assaulting seven girls at Twifo Heman in the Heman Lower Denkyira District.

The victims, all minors between the ages of six and seven, are pupils at a cultural dance school operated by the convict.

According to Chief Inspector Joseph Kussah, the Prosecutor, Adu Amissah, a choreography teacher, exploited his position as a cultural dance instructor to abuse the trust of his young pupils.

The convict allegedly used manipulative tactics, including buying soft drinks and toffees for the children and later apply lubricant on his penis and fingers to facilitate the abuses.

The act was detected after the girls fell sick, one after the other and were sent to the hospital by their parents where they admitted that they have been defiled by Adu Amissah.

Adu Amissah, according to the prosecutor, jumped bail for six months after being granted bail during the initial stage of the investigation.

However, through the vigorous efforts of the Central North Regional Police Cyber Unit, the convict was located and arrested at Adenta, in the Greater Accra Region.

On March 5, 2025, Adu Amissah was brought before the Twifo Hemang District Magistrate’s Court to face seven counts of indecent assault, and he pleaded guilty to all counts simplicita.

He was, therefore, convicted on his own plea by the court.

Building a cathedral at $400m when Ghana is struggling makes no sense – Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has expressed strong reservations about the ongoing construction of the National Cathedral, criticising its $400 million price tag as unjustifiable given Ghana’s current economic struggles.

He described the project as an ill-advised use of resources, especially at a time when the country faces significant financial challenges.

Speaking at a Christian National Prayer and Thanksgiving Service held on Sunday, January 12, 2025, at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), President Mahama called for a reassessment of the project’s future and suggested that alternative approaches be considered to achieve such a national monument without burdening the public purse.

The President drew comparisons between Ghana’s National Cathedral project and Nigeria’s National Ecumenical Center in Abuja, emphasizing the stark difference in cost.

According to President Mahama, the Ecumenical Center, which serves as a place of worship for all Christian denominations in Nigeria, was constructed for $30 million which he said is a fraction of the proposed $400 million budget for Ghana’s cathedral.

“On the future of the project, the National Cathedral, I believe that all of us as Christians must forge a consensus on how to achieve such a project without recourse to public funds. This project must be achieved at a reasonable cost.

“In the current circumstances that Ghana is going through, it makes no sense to achieve such a project a whooping sum of $400 million dollars. I am informed that the National Ecumenical Center in Abuja, which is used by all Christian faiths in Nigeria, was built for $30 million.”

The National Cathedral, originally proposed under the administration of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, was envisioned as a monumental Christian worship centre in Ghana.

The project has, however, faced persistent challenges, including funding shortfalls, construction delays, and widespread criticism from various quarters.

Critics have long argued that the use of state funds for the cathedral contradicts the principles of secular governance and the separation of religion from state affairs.

Entertainment Week Ghana team meets KOD to discuss cultural initiatives.

In a bid to reclaim Ghana’s unique cultural narrative for December, co-founder of Entertainment Week Ghana, De Graft Oppong is urging a strategic repositioning of Detty December amid growing competition from other African nations capitalising on the festive season. With Entertainment Week Ghana slated to launch in the first week of December 2025, Oppong envisions the event as a transformative platform that will not only redefine entertainment but also centralises Ghana as a destination hub for creativity, innovation, and cultural exchange. Entertainment Week Ghana is designed to convene key industry stakeholders, innovators, and investors for a comprehensive exploration of digital transformation, content monetisation, and evolving entertainment business models. Central to the initiative is a global entertainment summit featuring panel discussions led by renowned creative executives and industry experts. Additionally, an award ceremony will honour 15 outstanding individuals whose contributions have significantly enriched the entertainment landscape across diverse disciplines. A distinctive feature of the event will be the “Deal Room,” an exclusive forum where venture capital firms and tech-driven entrepreneurs can connect. This initiative aims to spur investment and foster strategic partnerships by enabling selected innovators to present their ideas to a panel of investors and industry leaders. Oppong explained that the need for such a platform emerged from the desire to empower creatives—particularly those historically overlooked—while harnessing the transformative power of technology and innovation. “This platform was born out of the urgency to recognize and empower creatives while providing the capacity-building tools necessary for long-term success,” he stated. With strong government support from the Ministry for Youth Development and Empowerment as well as Diaspora Affairs Ghana, Entertainment Week Ghana is well-positioned to influence the future of the creative industry. During a meeting on Wednesday, March 19, George Opare Addo, Minister of Youth Development and Empowerment, emphasised the initiative’s role in integrating technology and innovation with Ghana’s rich entertainment heritage. Similarly, Kofi Okyere Darko (KOD), Director of Diaspora Affairs Ghana, highlighted the inclusive nature of the event, which welcomes participation from both local stakeholders and the Ghanaian diaspora. Organised by Blacvolta Multimedia, Party Extra, and Q Bespoke, Entertainment Week Ghana is poised to offer a promising model for a more centralised and controlled Detty December.

Report drivers charging unapproved fares to Police – GPRTU

The Industrial Relations Officer of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), Abass Imoro, has urged commuters to report any driver demanding unauthorized transport fare increases to the nearest police station.

Speaking on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News on Tuesday, March 18, he emphasized that only the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) and the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC) have the authority to negotiate and announce transport fare adjustments.

“Do not pay any new fare to the drivers when they demand for it and report to the immediate police station. We have laws in the country. There is no law which says any transport operator can come up with it own transport fares. If we allow that, then it means we will be cheating the public.”

His remarks come in response to the Alliance of Drivers Ghana’s announcement of a 20% increase in transport fares, citing rising fuel prices, escalating engine oil costs, and the increasing prices of vehicle spare parts.
